Data Management
Data Backup
The Group onws several external hard drives dedicated to backpus. It is strongly recomenteded to backup your results and documents regularly. It is not recomended to store your data in the HPC as its capacity is very limited (Hawk deletes automatically any file older than 90 days). As part of the MCC and having been registerd in ARCHER, access to the Research Data Facility (RDF) is also granted. It is possible to upload your data using scp and sftp, but also rsync. Why not setting an automatic backup? Use crontab -e to execute a backup script at an specific time.
Cardiff Repository
In line with the Open Access guidance, all research funded by councils should be freely accessible. Cardiff placed a data repository, CONVERIS, which links publications and research outcomes through a DOI. This DOI is generated once a dataset with the data (research outcomes) has been defined by the metadata in the repository. This is a mandatory step and should be addressed before the research paper is submitted - as the DOI has to be printed in the Aknoledgements section. Find an example publication here and metadata examples in Research Data Management/Dataset Description in CONVERIS.
